Zeta II - Lovers thoughts
Story - Unlike the first movie, the second was fast-paced. The film immediately starts off without an opening roll and does not stop until the ending credits. Viewers with no prior knowledge of Zeta may come out thinking the movie is too disjointed.

Animation - Again telling apart the new and old was easy, but they were blended better. The characters this time looked more natural and had better facial expression.

Seiyuu (VA) - The biggest uproar regarding the second movie before it even premiered was the new VA for Four (Yukana) and Sarah (Chizuru Ikewaki). Yukana Four came out well. As for Ikewaki Sarah, Mizutani's performance in the TV version was way better. The tone of the voice was too odd for Sarah. Beltorchika, even though performed by the same person, was a bit different. She sounded softer in the movie.

Zeta III promo - The Tokyo Fanta premiere did not have a Zeta III promo, but the nation-wide theatrical release came with a short trailer at the end of the movie. Briefly narrated, the promo was all new animation. With how the second movie played out, all indications are that the Kilimanjaro/Dakar arc will be removed. Amuro's name was not on the Zeta III poster (Char, Kamille, Haman, and Scirocco are the four listed). Recent interviews indicate the movie is not finished and audio recordings by the actors have yet to take place.

Plot (spoiler alert)
Movie immediately starts off with Beltorchika arriving at Audhumla. Char and Amuro help bring her in. The weakened Amuro elements were removed. The Hickory and San Francisco battles were combined into one (Amuro takes out Asshimar and Kamille's Mk-II takes out Rosamia's Gaplant).

Most of the Hong Kong arc remained minus the part Mirai is taken as hostage. Here, they introduce the new twist that Wong Lee and Stephanie are father and daughter. Ben Wooder indeed shoots Four in the head at point blank range.

In space, Operation Apollo (ep 23), Reccoa infiltrating Jupitris (ep 28), and Titans gassing Side 2 (ep 29) were removed. Jamitov appeared for the first time and was annoyed at Bask (who did not appear at all) for commencing the colony drop on Granada. Jamaican did not die, however he did not appear after the colony drop (perhaps he was killed off like Roberto?). Scirocco's rank in the movie is Taisa (same as Bask) which is a huge jump from the TV version (Taii). Henken is more assertive in the movie as he tries to win the heart of Emma. The movie ends with an army of Gaza C storming into the battle between AEUG (Argama) and Titans (Scirocco's Dogos Gear). The Titans are repelled and the Argama is escorted to Axis.

MAHQ downtime
Chris Guanche dropped us a line regarding MAHQ's current status: As MAHQ's server is physically located in South Florida, the site will be down for at least 2 weeks and possibly longer. Chris also requests that people not e-mail him as his access is limited for the time being.

Zeta III
And the official title is "星の鼓動は愛" or something like "The Pulse of the Star is Love". In the Gundam Ace interview, Tomino was going to name the 3rd movie "Three Ways", but changed it after the animators said the name was too Gundam.

Wings Of Rean Bandai press release
Bandai's official site put up a press release, including new pics (better quality here), regarding Wings Of Rean, the first original animated work to be offered through broadband via the Bandai Channel. As had been reported earlier, the series will be 6 episodes total with each new 30-minute episode being released on a monthly basis. Besides the broadband release by Bandai Channel, Bandai Visual plans to release the anime through other media format such as STB (Set Top Box aka cable TV video on demand), PSP (Playstation Portable), and cell phones.

The story outline: Thanks to troublesome apartment-mates Rouri and Kanamoto, who had fired a rocket into an American military base, Asap Suzuki found himself chased by the US Military forces and police. Escaping on a bike, Asap saw a light come from the rising sea. Appearing from within the light, a strange battleship flew into the air. Asap was pulled in by the waves and when he approached the ship, a beautiful girl was onboard. On the feet of the girl, who identified herself as Princess Luxe of Byston Well, were shoes with shining wings. "My father is Shinjiro Sakomizu! Help me, Asap Suzuki!", the girl declared. Asap was perplexed. The girl knew his name upon meeting him for the first time. The ship wasn't the only thing to come from the light. One by one, otherworldly people appeared and Asap was overwhelmed by insect-like machines. The town was engulfed in flames from the ship's bombardment. Upper Earth and Byston Well...the war across two worlds began.

Watch Impress put up an article stating TV broadcast is not yet planned.

On a related note, Bandai Channel opened up a site featuring Tomino, which includes Tomino's filmography.

ZII: Lovers spoiler
The world premiere of ZII at the Tokyo International Fantastic Film Festival was held today. Following are spoilers from 2ch Classic Char Custom BBS and Autla.com.

Tomino appeared as the only guest. Apparently he is still busy with the 3rd part and promises it will be full of surprises.

Other info:
Metamorphoze was not included.
The title for the 3rd part was not revealed plus no trailer for it.
First half appeared to have more new animation compared to the 2nd half.
Some are saying the 1st movie had better mecha action.

Additional staff/cast:
Design Assistance : Kimitoshi Yamane
Qum : Maki Sawamura

Spoilers:

Starts off with Beltorchika approaching Audhumla.
At Hickory, Asshimar and Gaplant are shot down. Rosamia escapes. Hyaku Shiki goes to space. Katsu does not Gundam-jack Mk-II.
In Hong Kong, Mirai does not get kidnapped.
Four likely died. Ben Wooder stuck a gun to her head and shot her. A scene where her body falls to the ocean was seen and shortly afterwards Melord crashes into that same area. Kamille goes to space.
Blex and Char at Dakar remains the same as the TV.
Much of the space arc remains as the same as the TV. Colony drop on Granada is attempted. Most of "Half Moon Love" episode is intact. The part how Sara escapes Argama is changed.
Bright asks Henken to take Katsu onboard Radish. Henken's condition for taking in Katsu is Emma must accompany him.
Roberto did not appear at all. (Which assumes he died at New Kennedy like in the TV)
Instead of Gelgoog, Methuss was used as energy cartidge for Mega Bazooka Launcher.
White Gaza C appeared. (the Haman custom unit)
The movie ends at ep32.

Gundam otaku aims for the stars UPDATED
Yahoo! News writes of Daisuke "Dice-K" Enomoto, a 34-year-old Japanese man who is slated to be the world's 4th space tourist. If he gets approval, he says he plans to dress up as Char Aznable on the flight. Judging by his website, he's completely serious. Enomoto is naturally a self-described Gundam otaku. An article from the June issue of Cyzo quotes Enomoto as saying he wants to build his favorite plamodel on board the space station. The article also stated in passing that the Char costume has Bandai's full support.

Do roku mania
A pair of recent articles regarding the anime in what's come to be known as the "do roku" (Sat. 6) timeslot:
AV Watch covered the SEED DESTINY/Blood+ Relay Event that took place on October 1st in Tokyo. 5,000 fans chosen by lottery gathered at the Tokyo International Forum to watch the final episode of DESTINY as well as the first episode of Blood+ on the big screen. Appearing were Blood+ seiyuu, Hitomi Takahashi singing five songs, and chick magnet Akira Ishida.

Also in anticipation of Blood+, Oricon put up a story about how the music from the anime shown in TBS' 6 pm Saturday timeslot has made "do roku" a buzzword. Since Gundam SEED, every show there has had its share of hit singles. Given for selected songs from each anime are the highest rank achieved on the charts plus sales figures:

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED
"Invoke" - T.M. Revolution: #2 (247,000 copies sold)
"Believe" - Nami Tamaki: #5 (194,000 copies sold)
"Realize" - Nami Tamaki: #3 (157,000 copies sold)

Full Metal Alchemist
"Melissa" - Porno Graffiti: #2 (371,000 copies sold)
"Ready Steady Go" - L'Arc-en-Ciel: #1 (310,000 copies sold)
"Rewrite" - Asian Kung-Fu Generation: #4 (139,000 copies sold)

"Reason" - Nami Tamaki: #2 (179,000 copies sold)

TIFFF trailer
The official site of the Tokyo International Fantastic Film Festival has a streaming trailer up for the fest this weekend. Nothing really in the way of new Zeta footage but a montage of esoteric cinematic nuttiness can surely be appreciated by all.

Our 2nd anniversary
It was 2 years ago this day that this blog started up. It's amazing to me that we're still doing it 1,582 posts and 2,191,964 hits later. It can be hard work to keep up with all the things that go on in a mammoth enterprise like Gundam in a timely fashion and trying our best to get it right on top of commitments and responsibilities outside this site. So thank you very much for the appreciation & constructive feedback. We'll do our best to keep at it.

Alliance vs. ZAFT update
Game Watch reports that Shinn Asuka as well as the 3 versions of the Impulse Gundam are now enabled in the arcade version of the game. It's also mentioned that many SEED DESTINY characters will appear in the PS2 version.
