Road To The Universal Century

On December 1, BS 11 Digital will be airing Kenshou! The World Of Mobile Suit Gundam: Road To The Universal Century, a 2-hour special examining how much closer we are to the Universal Century. The broadcast will look at the real world space program, robot technology, and hi-tech military weaponry in contrast with the science and technology of the UC. The hosts will be Gundam UC author Harutoshi Fukui and tv personality/idol Kaori Manabe with guests including Gackt.

Gundam Unicorn 4 limited edition

Advertised on Gundam Ace, Kadokawa is set to release a limited edition version of Gundam Unicorn Volume 4. The limited edition novel version will come with Beam Gatling Gun, which can be attached to the upcoming MG Unicorn Gundam ver Ka. The limited edition verion comes out on April 26, 2008 priced at 1260 yen.

SD Gundam Collection Box first week sales

Oricon reports the SD Gundam Collection Box ranked #17 on the weekly anime DVD charts this past week.

Also charting was L'Arc's new album, "Kiss" (featuring "Daybreak's Bell"), which was #1 in Japan, selling 221,000 copies.

 

Gihren's Greed: The Menace Of Axis

This week's Famitsu announced this PSP title will come out February 7th. As mentioned previously, it'll include the ZZ and CCA periods and you can choose to start out as the Federation, Zeon, AEUG, Titans, or Axis forces. Also being reported is the appearance of MS from MS IGLOO and Harmony Of Gundam. Including variations, there are said to be about 400 MS/MA. Estimated play time is given as 20-30 hours. While event scenes don't have animation, there are more than 400 still scenes created in collaboration with Sunrise.

Video Research Ltd. has last week's episode of Gundam 00 in a tie for the 10th most watched anime in Japan with a 5.0% rating.

 

Gundam influences automobile design

Business Week did a write-up on Nissan's redesign of the GT-R sports car. Shiro Nakamura, Nissan's chief creative officer, said that the car had to really reflect Japanese culture and, the article notes, "the inspiration for the model's square lines and high-tech vents came from Gundam, the Japanese anime series featuring giant robots." The $69,850 automobile will be available in the US for the first time in June as well as Japan. Galleries of photos can be seen at Nissan USA's site and Motor Trend.

 

G Gen Spirits train promotion

Game Watch covers some of the promotional blitz for G Generation Spirits. Starting from the 24th, JR East's Yamanote line, one of the busiest in Tokyo, began featuring posters for the game on the outside of the train. The ads will be up for about one month.

Outwardly, she looks to be in her early teens and, if she is as old as she appears, as a mobile suit pilot so young, she is the best of the best.

Gundam Sadalsuud F - This unit is reinforced with weaponry and armor to a degree that doesn't compromise the prototype Sadalsuud's sensor effectiveness. Nonetheless, it isn't suited mainly for combat.

The Fusion Clashes: Gundam Battle-Rave official site opens

The official site had its grand opening today. Sections available are Product Info, MS Gallery (currently featuring the Eiga Kyouretsu Dino Gundam), Tournament/Event, and Special, featuring the Fusion Institute columns and magazine appearance info.

During Dengeki's 15 Anniversary celebration on the 24-25, merchandise and cards will be on display plus a promo video. At Jump Festa 2008 on December 22-23, promo cards & pamphets will be given out. The February issue of V Jump (on sale Dec. 21) will come with a special V Sparna Gundam card.

Comic Bom Bom Gundam manga continues on

As pointed out by ANN, Chuosha announced where various manga that had been serialized in Comic Bom Bom would be appearing after Bom Bom's final issue was published on November 15. Mobile Suit Gundam Alive and SD Gundam Full Color Theater will show up in a Spring issue of TV Magazine Manga Special and SD Gundam Sangokuden will be completed in its own comic with additional new material.

It's been posted on Moon Phase's misc. notes site that Gundam 00's second season is planned to air starting October 2008. The source of the announcement is given as a leaflet promoting the Gundam 00 Official File publication.

Nippon Crown Music announced changes for Gackt's upcoming Gundam album "0079-0088". Release date remains the same, however 3 version will be released.

Softbank is now taking reservation for 913SH G TYPE-CHAR cellphone. It is priced at 100,000 yen and only 5,000 units will be produced. Those who ordered through Softbank's online store will receive two Char custom QUO cards.

 

SD Gundam DVD event

Commerating the release of the SD Gundam DVD boxset, Sunrise announced an all night screening event will take place at Ikebukuro Theatres Daiya on Dec 8th. SD Gundam Mk I-V, SD Gundam Gaiden I-IV, and bonus footage are scheduled to be shown. Tetsuro Amino (director), Kouji Yokoi (SD Gundam designer), Susumi Imaishi (SD Gundam manga artist), and Koutaro Nakayma are scheduled to appear as part of the talk show event.

Banpresto games merges with Bandai Namco

Game Watch reports Bandai Namco Holdings announced Banpresto's game division will be integrated with Bandai Namco Games on April 1. Banpresto itself will continue focusing on their prize machines business.

Updated: Besides the announced integration of Banpresto, Bandai Namco Holdings announced the takeover bid (TOB) of Bandai Visual and Bandai Networks. Both companies will become wholly owned subsidiary after Bandai Namco Holdings buys back publically traded stocks.

Gackt to release Gundam album

Daily Sports Online reports that on December 19, Gackt will be releasing "0079-0088", a new album featuring 8 songs. Gackt, a huge Gundam freak, has previously provided the ending theme "dears" for Gundam: The Ride as well as theme songs for the Zeta Gundam theatrical trilogy. The 8 tracks consist of 5 of his own as well 3 others from the Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy: "Cross Of Sand", "Ai Senshi", and "Meguriai", his first cover songs. The project, announced on the same day Yoshiyuki Tomino celebrates his birthday, is said to be a present for the Gundam creator.

The Ministry Of Defense's Gundam revealed

Sankei News posted a photo and description of the "Gundam" advanced personal equipment system that made the rounds in the news last week. The ground combat-oriented system consists of a bulletproof vest and a helmet with a display that shows a physical status monitor, GPS positional info, and video of other locations. Three sets will be shown off at the Symposium this week, with one on display and another for visitors to try. The Ministry Of Defense's Technical Research & Development Institute is quoted as being perplexed with the reaction the listing received as the research was focused on group IT and it was listed as Gundam because it was called that by some of the researchers several years back.

 

Bandai & Sunrise collaborate on new card battle game

Bandai announced "The Fusion Clashes: Gundam Battle Rave", a new card battle game going on sale at the end of December. The project is a collaboration between Bandai and Sunrise featuring original Gundams made through the fusion of a core "Machine Soul" MS card and a "Battle Rave" card representing something else. Examples include the fusion of a Gundam and a rhinoceros beetle (the "Gun Daibeet"), a Gundam and a ninja ("Koga G Shinobi"), and a Gundam and an electric heater ("Gun Hedam"). Kunio Okawara and Hajime Katoki took part as creators of the original designs. Bandai says the target audience is elementary schoolboys and their aim is to sell 40 million cards by the end of March 2009.
