MSG DVD Box 2 first week sales UPDATED
Oricon reports the 2nd Mobile Suit Gundam TV series DVD Box set ranked #1 on the overall weekly DVD charts with 39,000 copies sold. Anime titles dominated the overall chart this past week, taking 1st, 2nd (Haruhi Vol. 7, limited edition), and 3rd place (Code Geass Vol. 1). The last time that happened was November 2005, when the top 3 were Howl's Moving Castle, Howl's Moving Castle Special Edition, and the Howl's Moving Castle + Ghibli Ga Ippai Special Short Short twin box.

Gundam Evolve Alpha ranked #5.

Story:

MS IGLOO Complete Creation Data Collection
The MS IGLOO site put up details for a publication entitled MS IGLOO Complete Creation Data Collection. The 144-page mook, coming out the end of February, has not only prototype ships and weapons from the anime but also those appearing in the manga version newly done in 3D CGI by Sunrise's D.I.D. Studio (such as the pictured GM Camouf). Includes multi-view lineart, development details, gimmicks, weaponry, and commentary.
 
 
Sony & Bandai Namco form new software company
Game Watch reports Sony Computer Entertainment and Bandai Namco Games are forming a company named Cellius Inc. starting up March 6. Cellius will create and sell audio, visual, & computer software using Sony's Cell Broadband Engine chip. Bandai Namco will own 51% of the company, with Sony owning the other 49%.

08th MS Team all night screening
MYCOM Journal reports Bandai Visual will hold an all night 08th MS Team screening on Feb 24th at Theatres Shinjuku. The event starts at midnight showing all 11 episodes in 5.1ch sound with director Umanosuke Iida and Takashi Imanishi as guests. The price of admission is 2500 yen.

Gundam Musou game modes
Tsutaya Online describes three modes of the game: Official Mode allows you to play through battles in the original anime. Original Mode lets you choose from all the game's characters from MSG, Z, & ZZ and play through stages based on situations not in the original anime. With Versus Mode, you compete in battles with special victory conditions.

Info from this week's Famitsu. By the number of titles in the top 100, Bandai Namco Games ranked #2 with 15 games (behind Nintendo, with 30). By sales numbers, Bandai Namco ranked #4 with 4,220,898 units sold. Rankings of Gundam-relevant titles:

29) Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny: Alliance Vs. ZAFT II Plus - 440,432 copies sold
48) SD Gundam G Generation Portable - 271,425 copies sold
53) Mobile Suit Gundam Climax U.C. - 241,597 copies sold
78) Another Century's Episode 2 - 181,052 copies sold

Additionally, SD Gundam G Generation Portable was the #2 selling game for the PSP in 2006 while Gundam: Target In Sight was the #2 selling game for the PS3, with 96,714 copies sold.

Rakuten's edigi site gives one or two tiny details: the addition of a dash button gives a sensation of speed not present in any of the past Musou games. The character growth system applies to both the pilot and mobile suit, allowing your characters to become stronger and awaken as a Newtype.

An interesting discussion about the visual quality of the Region 2 MS Gundam TV series DVD's broke out on AnimeOnDVD.com's forums. Bonds Of The Battlefield site update
The news section of the official site announces in commemoration of the HGUC kit, they're taking applications for ace pilots to test the Gundam GP02A MLRS Physalis in the game. Candidate test pilots for the super high cost MS need to rank within the top 10 pilot point rankings of their battalion for the month of January. The test period takes place from February 14 through March 13.
 
 
Char Custom Blog closes
The webmaster of the Char Custom Blog posted a New Year's notice about the closing of his site. For the past three years, the blog has been the single best resource for Japanese Gundam news if one didn't want to wade through the spam on 2channel. Best wishes to all involved.
 
 
Comet Chick Express
On sale July 26th, is Hideki Ohwada's "Mobile Suit Gundam-san: Tsugi No Chotto Tsugi No Maki ~Comet Chick Express~". It comes with 48 all-color pages of manga featuring the famous Gundam-san character: the Comet Chick, a 6 cm Power Spring Chick that moves when you pull its tail string, three 3cm diameter tin badges, three 4.8cm Chick glitter stickers, and a secret item. The cutoff date for reservations is March 23rd.
